Social cognition is launching off point for how to engage other people: if someone comes off well we want to talk to them. Often our social judgments are inaccurate: people thought hitler were nice and a good person to lead the country. Mistake in social judgment can have consequences or not ^^ We often have no info and make judgments based on physical appearance: snap judgment (gender, age, race) Inferring stuff from physical appearance: slide 6 shows faces on a scale, baby face usually more trustworthy with softer features. Animals are cute so we see a similar effect in cute baby-face people. Snap judgment accuracy: compared snap judgments to people who had much longer to make judgments, . 4 or up is significant, shows our snap judgments are pretty accurate. Everyone in class not asking a question so everyone gets it except me but false: misperception that everyone is same in group.
