Diaspora: people settled far from their homelands. Emigrant and immigrant policies: the set of rules and regulations established by each country with regards to the movement of people across borders. Basic structure of immigration policy in us. Legal permanent residents (lprs): aka legal immigrants are authorized to live and work in the country permanently but are not citizens. Foreign-born citizens: an immigrant who has obtained citizenship in his or her new country. Legal temporary residents: a person allowed to live in a country for a specified period of time. Unauthorized migrants: a person living in a country where he or she is not legally allowed to reside.
