Ipat is a formula to help us realize the our culminative impact on the planet by not only the population but the rising amounts of natural resources each person uses as well. Ipat was founded by scientist ehrlich, john holdren and barry commoner. Although this is a good measure of how the human population is affecting the earth, it should not be taken too serious since it shows humans as linear when in reality we are very complex. In brazil, the fertility rate has gone down due to the fact that education for girls, increased availability to contraceptives and more career opportunities. Although this has shown to decrease fertility rate, it also increases the consumption of resources per person.
