Education policy & the formation of the taliban. Amidst the cold war, a small group of afghani fighters emerged that begun the start of what is known today as the taliban. As the communist revolution had spread worldwide, afghan had not gone undetected by the communist influence. Afghan and in result there was backlash from the islamic community and nationalists within. This is where the u. s. came in to support afghanistan by funneling money through pakistan and saudi arabia to fund the mujahideen, afghan fighters, in order to prevent this communist expansion. The u. s. funded these fighters through training, supplies and any means necessary in order to fight against the soviet union after they had invaded afghanistan. In result after afghan forces had successfully defeated the soviets and they had left afghanistan, the country was left in ruins. Afghanistan would never remain to be the same after the invasion.
