Lots of studies show kids demonstrating stereotypical gendered preferences prior to 2 yrs old. Children at this age unaware of their sex,suggests predispositions are genetically hardwired. But infants don"t need to know their own sex to respond to a parents behavior cues and patternsmaybe girls simply see more pink. Reasonable to suggest that children would attempt to identify their correct path and seek approval by following the suggestions around them. Color coding and gender markers in clothing and toys seem like they are simply suiting boys and girls personalities and preferences, but they were once a way of actively enforcing gender archetypes.
