People w/ high need for power: competitive, aggressive, prestige- conscious, action oriented. Uses power to achieve goals set by the organization. Legitimate: norms, values, beliefs, some ppl have legit right to rule others. Referent: the person is held up on a pedestal, aka charismatic power. Expert: the person has expertise, knowledge & talent. Compliance- people conforming to authoritative figures so they themselves can have a good outcome. Identification- people accepting what others say b/c they agree w/ them and want to maintain relationships. Does not have to agree/value what they say. Internalization- ppl adopt other s attitudes/behaviors b/c it helps personal needs. Uncertainty reduction + low substitutability + high centrality= intergroup power. To reduce uncertainty- gain resource control or information control or decision-making control.
