ANTHRO 2A Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Gender Role, Mass Media, Gringo
Document Summary
Growing up in american usually involves participating in competitive sports or at least taking part to watch them. Traditional cultural practices govern class, race, and gender. School was usually cut short for pep rallies and those most excited for this were band members and the pep club. The pep rallies allowed students to get a little bit more freedom than usual (going out without parents, teachers, or supervisors usually for 8-10 hours) A feeling of unity overcame students, non-football players planned a fantasy revenge on the rival team. There were people that didn"t like being a part of it but nonetheless enjoyed the freedom. Most people within the town felt that by supporting the local team they were representing the town. Students seated themselves depending on their status at the school (older students in center, younger ones next to activity leaders) The school"s outcasts sat near the exits to display their dislike for the event and willingness to leave.
