Cystic fibrosis: occurs 1:3000 caucasian births (1:15,000 african american births, 1:30,000. During gamete formation the segregation alleles at one locus is independent of the segregation of alleles at another locus. The chi-square (c2) test is commonly used for quantifying how closely an experimental observation matches the expected outcome. The difference between observed and expected values are squared, divided by the expected values and then the values obtained for each outcome are summed. From the chi-square test we get a probability value (p). This is the probability that the results deviate from the expected results by chance alone. The p value is dependent on the degrees of freedom (df), that is the number of outcome classes or independent variables (eg phenotypes/genotypes minus 1) (i. e 1) The chi-square table includes values for different degrees of freedom and the corresponding p values. If p > 0. 05, we do not reject the null hypothesis.
