High level of progesterone inhibits lh prod. preventing ovulation. Progestin makes cervical mucus thick, makes hard for sperm to get thru. Some side effects good - reduce amount of menstrual ow. Can be overkill for women who have sex infrequently. Some delay (2-3 mo) in getting pregnant after coming off pill. Triphasic pills contain steady level of estrogen like combo pill, but 3 phases in levels of progesterone. Designed to avoid estrogen-related side effects of combo pills. Useful for those who can"t take combo pills b/c of health issues. Lasts for 7 days so use once a week for 3 weeks then have patch-free week. Advantage: do not have to remember to take daily pill. Hormones enter body thru skin and don"t have to be digested.
