PSY BEH 150C Chapter Notes - Chapter 8: Body Language, Eye Contact
Document Summary
Assessment is closely associated with the identity of clinical psychology. It is important that the clinical psychologist"s methods be valid, reliable, and possess clinical utility. Feedback is a crucial part of therapy as well, as it is necessary to provide the results of tests and such that the client has completed. Quieting yourself does not simply mean not talking. It also means that you shouldn"t be preoccupied with your own thoughts and actually be listening and engaged with what your client is talking to you about. Self-awareness is also key as a clinical interviewer, your ability to know how you affect others interpersonally, or how others relate to you. Skilled interviewers are aware of their unique traits like cultural assumption or body language, etc. Developing positive working relationships is key with clients. An interviewed client is likely to become a psychotherapy client, so it is good to form a positive relationship from the start.
