PSY BEH 170S Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Eval, Evolutionary Psychology, Pigeonholing
Document Summary
Chapter 1 - the study of the person. Psychological triad - how people feel, think, and behave. Personality psychology draws heavily from social, cognitive, developmental, clinical, and biological psychology, and contributes to each of these fields by showing how each part of psychology fits into the whole picture of what people are really like. Personality - an individual"s characteristic patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior, together with the psychological mechanisms (hidden or not) behind those patterns. Personality psychologists put together the pieces of the puzzle contributed by various other subfields of psych, as well as by their own research, to assemble an integrated view of whole, functioning individuals in their daily environments. The only way to succeed is to choose to limit what you look at. You have to search for more specific patterns instead of trying to account for everything at once.
