SOCIOL 110 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Critical Race Theory, Ethnomethodology, Null Hypothesis
Document Summary
Paradigm- a model of reference through which to observe and understand. Views human behavior as attempts to dominate others or avoid being dominated by others. These help to determine which concepts we see as relevant or not relevant. Views humans behavior as the creation of meaning through social interactions. Ethnomethodology: how you approach a situation and act during that situation. Structural functionalism- also known as the social systems theory. Social phenomena are divided into parts and each serves a function for the operation of the whole. The individual parts would not be useful by themselves and without one of them the whole would not function as well: critical race theory. Paradigm grounded in race awareness and an intention to achieve racial justice. Interest convergence- idea that the majority will only support the interest of minorities when those actions also support the interest of the majority group. Theory- a testable hypothesis with some truth already behind it.
