Design for learning is designed to improve access and participation, and asks teachers to reduce, eliminate, and help students hurdle over barriers they might find in the classroom. The premise of udl implies that the students are not the problem when it comes to difficulties; it is the curriculum, instruction, or assessment that must be adjusted to meet student"s needs. This way of viewing students and education implies that student differences are natural, a strength, and a challenge to work into lessons, but a part of being a child, young adult, and human. We must capitalize on student"s strengths rather than striving to create an institution where every student can learn in one specific fashion. Udl asks us to consider how students of all backgrounds, diverse experiences, and disabilities can stand on equal ground.
