MMC 3200 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Communications Act Of 1934, Federal Communications Commission, Overbreadth Doctrine
Document Summary
Constitutions are considered the most important source of our law (because the people have an unusual voice in the approval and change of a constitution) *the u. s constitution is the supreme law of the land; any law or constitution that conflicts with it is unenforceable. There are (cid:373)a(cid:374)y co(cid:374)stitutio(cid:374)s: federal co(cid:374)stitutio(cid:374), state co(cid:374)stitutio(cid:374)s, city charters etc. All these documents accomplish the same ends: they provide the plan for the establishment and organization of govt. , they outline duties, responsibilities, and powers of the various levels of govt. , and they (usually) guarantee basic rights to the people. Legislative bodies may enact statutes rather easily by a majority of vote; it is more difficulty to adopt or change a constitution; state constitutions are approved/changed directly by the vote of the people. Congress decides which method of ratification or approval is to be used. Constitutions tend to be short and infrequently amended.
