The quality and completeness of the fossil record affect this problem because it makes it very hard to find the true age of some species since so much is missing. The reason for this is that very little species were fossilized and according to. Robert martin only three percent of fossil species have been found and recorded. If the fossil record was more complete then it would be a lot easier to tell the real age of the lineages and other fossils. Calling early hominins bipedal apes is inaccurate because although they had similarities to apes they were not apes. Differences between early hominins and other apes are that hominins were bipedal, they lived in woodlands and savannas because they were terrestrial, and their skulls and dentation were for their omnivorous diet. Australopithecus species shared features like small brain sizes, very obvious sexual dimorphism between male and female, and strong skulls.
