It"s not only about racial diversity or background or culture. It could be in terms of knowledge, like someone"s knowledge in history, or science, or math. Diversity is not only at the level of gender and race; it could be at the level of language and communication. For example, women have a lower percentage of diversity compared to men, especially in my subfield. It"s nice to see female students and colleagues. I love seeing women taking up new positions and leadership roles. For example, i have six ta"s that come from different backgrounds and they have different methods of teaching the class. Having more than one way to teach a class instead of a single way is very critical. In creating peers, you can find another colleague to listen to. Suggestions when choosing a different person that might bring something different to the table and listen to what they have to say.
