HLT POL 100 Chapter Notes - Chapter N/A: Endangerment, Haemophilia, Public Health
Document Summary
Physicians have the right to take vacations and time off from their practice and to be unavailable to care for their patients during those times. Physicians should notify their patients when they will be unavailable. While a physician has the right to accept or decline to establish a professional relationship with any person, once that relationship is established, the physician has certain responsibilities. For example, federal law and many state laws prohibit hospitals from giving physicians kickbacks of money or other benefits in return for referring patients. A physician shall be dedicated to providing competent medical service with compassion and respect for human dignity. A physician shall deal honestly with patients and colleagues, and strive to expose those physicians deficient in character or competence, or who engage in fraud or deception. A physician shall respect the law and recognize a responsibility to seek changes in those requirements that are contrary to the best interests of the patient.
