Document Summary

Return and often worsening of anxiety symptoms. Withdrawal - irritability, paranoia, sleep disturbance, agitation, muscle tension, restlessness, perceptual disturbance. Withdrawal symptoms less likely if medication is discontinued gradually. Marijuana - dried leaves and flowers, smoked in cigarette or pipe. Hashish - dried resin from female cannabis plant, smoked or eaten. Oral administration --> slow and incomplete absorption. Need 2-3x larger dose to achieve same effect as if smoked. "high" - pervasive sense of well-being and happiness. Variable effects of mood - happy or anxious and paranoid. Mood may be easily influenced by how other people are behaving. Temporal disintegration - trouble retaining and organizing information even over relatively short periods of times. Disjointed conversation due to interference with ability to recall what they have said or planned to say. Some tolerance effects in lab animals, ambiguous in humans. Most evidence suggests people do not develop tolerance unless exposed to high doses over extended periods of time.
