Good teachers are said to be caring, helpful, and stimulating. Associated with gains in motivation, achievement and favorable peer relations. Teachers do not interact the same way with all children. Caring teacher student relationships can have a strong impact on achievement and social behavior of low ses minorities and children at risk for learning difficulties. Educational self fulfilling prophecies: children adopt teachers" positive or negative views and start living up to them. Homogenous groups can be potent sources of self fulfilling prophecies. Ses and ethnic segregation in us schools consigns large numbers of low ses minority students to a form of schoolwide, deleterious homogeneous grouping. Peer tutoring can contribute to favorable outcomes. Assignment to a college track accelerates academic progress but assignment to a vocational or general education track decelerates it. Low ses students tend to be assigned to lower course levels and non-college tracks.
