Document Summary

Symbolic interactionism is basically the formation of symbols based on social interactions, people agree upon the formation of a symbol, symbols are modified by individuals. Symbols are our reality, we filter reality through our symbols, we view things differently through our symbols. Symbols are interpreted differently in different cultures. We act based on the meaning of the symbols. Because language is the main way of communication, we use our language to create symbols through interaction and agreement with different individuals. Without language, we can"t interact and learn what the symbols are. Can"t interact with the rest of the world and society without language. Limited to the type of culture that you become identified with. What we assume what other people things, based on symbols and language. Based on what you can see and how people react. No guarantee that the assumptions i hold about a specific symbol won"t necessarily connect with other"s definition of a symbol.
