Three main phases to the 100 yr war. 1337 declaration of war~ english won military victories. 1356 the war resumed~ english victory at poitiers. 1376 conflict between england and france reignited. The 100 year war was not europe-wide. King charles v imposed taxes to fund the army and disbanded free companies. Henry iv was then succeeded by henry v who prepared for invasion and made many alliances. Over 5 years, much of north france was conquered. Henry v believed himself to be the rightful king of england. This was not sustainable and was only a drain on money when he died early. Joan of arc was captured by the english and labeled a witch. 1435~ duke of burgundy withdrew alliance with england. The 100 year was threatened the existence of france and at the end the. 100 year was had big effects on english monarchy~ when france got the upper hand, kings were undermined and may were murdered.
