[76] She was fascinated with language so discovering the library was something meaningful to her. [78] Fran recounts her experience in the anglo part of town with deborah. even though fran considered herself to be americanized to some extent, she could not relate to some things such as books wrote by nancy drew. [82] She mentions how her spanish last name was giving her a problem, being embarrassed and having to spell it out, since anglos cannot pronounce it correctly. [83]
