They seem to be the ethnicity of choice. They had a guide that abandoned them in the middle of nowhere. They meet another pilgrim who speaks arabic and turkish and travel with him. He got stranded in israel after his hajj and ended up in turkey. The turks are all super friendly and clean. There is a town where there are non muslims living and they have their own separate quarters of the city which are walled off. The walls are locked from the outside at night and during friday service. The muslims live in the city proper and the entire city (andalia) is walled off. It"s an organization whereby young unmarried men who are chosen by their guild, their peers, or who live ascetic lives are chosen to lead their group and welcome strangers, do works of charity, and fight injustice in their communities. They have an hq that the leader of that chapter sets up.
