Document Summary
Equality of resources is equality in resources that are privately owned. Individuals command over public resources forms part of his private resources. Device for defining and achieving certain community-wide goals (prosperity, efficiency, overal utility) Enemy of equality bc inequality in property. But should be used as a device for setting prices for goods and service. Not equal division if any immigrant would prefer someone else"s bundle of resources to his own bundle. Envy test - everyone gets eggs and everyone likes it except someone who hates eggs. He prefers what he would have had under some fairer treatment of the initially available resources. Envy test can"t be satisfied by any simple mechanical division of resources. Divider needs some form of auction or other market procedure in order to satisfy people"s needs. If everything was auctioned off and everyone started out with the same amount of money, then everyone would be satisfied.
