Document Summary

An explosion occurs when a great deal of stored energy is suddenly converted to heat in a confined space. The heat turns the surrounding matter into hot gas, the gas (with enormous pressure) puts great force on everything that surrounds it. It is the rapid conversion of this energy to heat that is at the heart of most explosions. Chocolate chip cookies have eight times the energy as the same weight of tnt. However, tnt can release its energy very quickly. Tnt becomes a gas that expands so suddenly that it pushes and shatters surrounding objects. (all energy released in one millionth of a second) Chocolate chips release its energy slowly, through metabolism. Gasoline releases its energy by combining with oxygen, done by a fuel injector in cars. The energy released pushes a piston down the axis of the cylinder, and drives the wheel of the car. Uses its energy to release electrons from atoms.
