Picks her skin on her face 7-10 times a day in order to improve her appearance (unclog pores, or relieve stress) Occasionally pick skin from chest, shoulders and back. Never be able to control her skin picking. Skin picking episode lasts 30 min 3-5 hours a day picking her skin. Due to fears that she would be made fun of or rejected if her physical appearance is flawed. Friends and family tell her she looks fine she is convinced her skin is flawed and ugly. Cover her skin w/ hair, makeup and clothes. Checks skin in mirrors and run her hands across body finds skin imperfections. Short lived relief lead to embarrassment, guilt and heightened anxiety. Her immediate family members treated for psychological disorders growing up. Father: obsessive compulsive disorder + major depression; worried about his weight. Family did a lot of exercise and discussed body shape and weight. Tina is chubby throughout childhood and adolescence.
