From 2010 to 2015 historic number of rural counties experienced population declines, and recent demographic trends point to relatively slow employment and pop growth in rural areas as well as high rates of poverty. In rural communities , livelihoods are more tightly interconnected with ag, vulnerable to agricultural volatility related to climate. In 2013 15% of us population lived in rural counties covering 72% of nation"s land area. Climate change has potential to adversely impact ag productivity at local, regional and continental scales through alterations in rainfall patterns, more frequent occurrences of climate extremes (high temp and drought) and altered patterns of pest pressure. Risk is associated with rate and severity of change and ability of producers to adapt to changes.
