Shift toward the model of a complex, irregular, and very gradual separation and delineation of christianity from rabbinic judaism (pg. 48: in present day, we see little difference between these different groups of jews and have a difficult time distinguishing one group from another. Geography played a large part in the diversification of jews: jews in different geographic locations were exposed to different cultures, and chose to assimilate on different levels. Some fully assimilated, some did not assimilate at all, and most were somewhere in the middle.
