HR & Asian Cultures 03/13/2014 Asian Values and cultural relativism HR interfere with economic development; Rights are too difficult for developing countries to put in place  States are only required to care about the minimum of human rights  Problems with this argument: significant wealth disparity and wealth only distribute to small 1%; you can’t  suspend human rights forever in replace of economic development  Donnelly: Understandable to some extent, but should only be a temporary thing Permanent thing: Authoritarian Dictator  Temporary… 6 months? 2 years? All depends on status of that economic country  HR infringe on state sovereignty;  China: big example Should be up to the state to determine what human rights are for its population  Valid argument?  State’s don’t accept limitations on their sovereignty at all… yes they do, it’s called signing treaties  In practice, this isn’t a very valid argument; besides the fact that most of the countri
