The due process function- protect individuals from the unfair advantages that the government possesses in the legal world. Idea that two sides in a court room are adversaries is fundamental in american courtrooms. Crime control function- criminals must suffer from the harm that they caused society, and it is the court"s responsibility to see that they do so. Rehabilitation function- similar to the medical model, wherein the criminals act as patients and the court acts as a doctor administering treatment. Bureaucratic function- all other functions come secondary to the bureaucratic function, which places administrative limitations on what can be done by what time. Jurisdiction- the authority of a court to hear and decide cases within the area of the law or a geographic territory.
