After the war, the soviets seemed like the only beacon of hope to turn to because they said that they could save russia. Russian revolution was caused by the wide difference of modern and non-modern life in russia as well as the fact that russia was way behind the rest of europe from a modern stand point. Russian was prior to ww1 and a collection of international subcultures creating new art. Soviet was after ww1 and focused on making art a physical thing or surface. The two avant-gardes were different and competed against one another. Russian art needed to fall under a communist eye.
