Said discusses the heartbreak inflicted on his family after the displacement of thousands
of Palestinians. His entire extended family had been uprooted from their homes and left without
money or a job. This shows the devastation of the Palestinian side, that not only the Jews were
being mistreated during this time. Even after the displacement for the home - and an issue still
present today - the Palestinians struggle to get work, education, health care, or any rights.
Arab’s tendency to immediately revert to violence and militarism caused displacement of Jews
and Palestinians and a forever lasting separation. This separation between Arab and Jews has
only grown as it has taken on new characteristics. Not only is this a geographic indifference, but
it is a cultural, political, and just a mental stigma that continues to grow.
The beginning of the Kimmerling and Migdal article shows the Arab side in the Gaza
Stri[, that it is also heartbreaking that they are being uprooted from the home they know and
being forced away. The article continues to discuss the revolts against arabs and the
overwhelming occupation of Israelis in the city. Even after the fall of the the West Bank, many
guerilla activities continued to run however they did so underground and in secrecy.
Throughout the two articles, one can see that despite which side of the argument - Arabs
or Jews - there seem to be no side truly triumphant. Israel may have one their state, but they
suffered losses and tragedies along the way, and in the process took away homes and family
members from the Arabs. The long sought conflict that continues to brew has caused unending
and horrific consequences to every side.
