Structuralism was based on the notion that the task of psych is to analyze consciousness into its basic elements and investigate how they are related. Goal: identify and examine important aspects of conscious experience such as sensation and feeling. Structuralists used introspection, which is self-reflection of experience. Functionalism was based on the based on the belief the psych should investigate the function and function and purpose of consciousness; how people adapt. Psychoanalytical theory tries to explain personality, motivation, and mental disorders by analyzing unconscious factors of behavior.
