There are two levels of sociology: macrosociology: this level focuses on the broad features of society, for example social class. Functionalists and conflict theorists focus on this level: microsociology: this level focuses on social interactions. These two levels when used together will give us a more in-depth understanding of social life. Individual sociologists tend to favor one method over the other, depending on their background. Social structure is the framework of a society, or the typical patterns of a group. This guides human behavior: social structure often overrides personal feelings and desires. People will change their behavior to fit the environment that they are in: location in social structure is what determines attitudes and behaviors. There are 5 major components of social structure. This refers to a group"s values, behaviors, gestures, beliefs, and language. Also refers to material objects: social class. Determined by one"s income, education, and occupational prestige. This greatly influences one"s ideas and attitudes: social status.
