Once adopted, the standards of the medical model become the prevailing standards for judging adequate prevenion. Diagnosis, and treatment of all health problems, leading to an automaic devaluaion of indigenous pracices. Developing countries inherit not only the problems inherent in medicalized birth but also the problems inherent in doing scieniic obstetrics badly (without the technological and manpower support it requires for adequate funcioning) All biomedical evidence is based on subjects drawn from the hospital populaion of western industrialized countries---don"t compare to indigenous people in diferent locaions. Women want a support system but hospital births don"t allow it. Midwife ensures that women are treated with respect and preserve their dignity while hospital births defy this in a mulitude of ways (i. e. lithotomy posiion, pubic shaving, etc. ) 7 jordan: generic problems in training courses.
