Document Summary
Motivation: the factor that direct and energize the behavior of humans and other organisms. Needs: biological state of deficiency that lead to a behavior. Incentives: any external object or event that motivates behavior. A(cid:271)raha(cid:373) maslo(cid:449)"s hierarchy of needs model shows that lower-level needs must be satisfied before a person will be motivated to pursue a higher-level need. Instinct: inborn patterns of behavior that are biologically determined rather than learned. Gives too little attention to the adaptive qualities of our behavior. Theories suggest that a lack of some biological need produce a drive to push an organism to satisfy that need. Drive: motivational tension, or arousal, that energize behavior to fulfill the underlying need. Primary drive: biological needs of the body or of the species as a whole. Secondary drive: fulfill no obvious biological needs; (addictions) The (cid:271)od(cid:455)"s te(cid:374)de(cid:374)(cid:272)(cid:455) to (cid:373)ai(cid:374)tai(cid:374) a stead(cid:455) i(cid:374)ter(cid:374)al state. Feedback loops enable homeostasis to bring changes in body functioning back to an optimal state.
