Document Summary
The most important aspects of social life are the concepts we learn without anyone teaching us. Socialization: the process by which you learn how to become a functioning member of society. Socialization: the process through which individuals internalize the values, beliefs, and norms of a society and learn to function as its members. Limits of socialization are recognized when you"re in a new situation and aren"t sure how to behave. In situations like that, we may take on actions that we see in the media. Knowing how to act in a certain situation may make us leaders for other people. It is useful for understanding how people become functioning members of society. Nature vs. nurture: nazi/jew twins, twins experiencing pain. Agency: while we operate within limits that are not of our own making, we make choices about how to interact with out environment. We are largely shaped by interaction; without society, human nature would not develop.
