Clout derived from sheer numbers of people willing to lend their name, pay dues, and otherwise show support for a cause that has influence in creating social change. Volunteers will continue to be found on both sides of an issue. Influence of volunteers on the formation of institutions and professions. Interpretation: ultimate measure of the success of a volunteer effort is the creation of paid positions to institutionalize that response to a need (contradicts belief volunteering is adequate substitute for budgeting) Interpretation: volunteers move from being founders to being assistants (denigrating) Not all volunteering is effective, appropriate, or successful. Often exclusionary - self-help and religiously-affiliated groups are often limited in membership and in whom they serve. Everything that has an impact on individuals in our society will impact those individuals as volunteers. Factors of health and mobility affect types of volunteer work seniors can do. 20s-30s are willing to participate in projects helping their neighborhoods, the environment, and international cooperation.
