Intro to Anatomy Study Guide:
(Sorry, questions 1-19 were handwritten on flashcards and I was too lazy to type up
for you. Laura)
20. Subjective Questions:
a) Be specific but open ended!
21. Nursing Assessment vs. Medical Assessment:

2. Nurse: creates plan of care; Medical: prescribes treatment for health
3. Nurse: evaluates how plan of care is helping; Medical: looks at how treatment
worked
22. Communication Style and Health Assessment:
a) Let patient know what you’re doing so they aren’t nervous
b) Be specific while questioning patient about health
23. Patient interference with Health Assessment:
1. Patient is uncomfortable taking shirt off for chest inspection
a. Only reveal one side of chest at a time
2. Patient is unable to sit up for certain parts of inspection
a. Get another nurse to help the patient, or prop him/her up with
pillows
b. Do my best to perform this part of inspection while patient is lying
down
3. Patient is unconscious and unable to answer health history questions

24. Assessing Patient with SOB: ABC Priority:
a) Assess patient’s airway
a. Is it clear and open?
b) Assess patient’s breathing
a. Depth and RR
c) Assess patient’s circulation
a. Adequate O2 flow to periphery?
d) Health History: obtain from patient/family OLD CART
a. History of breathing problems? Asthma? What caused this? Etc.
25. Assessing patient after tonsillectomy
a) Make oral cavity, airway, & breathing primary focus
b) Be aware that patient may not be able to speak/answer questions

Sign: (cid:523)objective data(cid:524), physical indication of patient"s condition, can be observed changing external conditions through a dynamic equilibrium.
