Freud was inspired to study psychology after seeing a lot of women who were diagnosed with hysteria. Free association - saying whatever comes to mind. Was used to help patients with hysteria. Model of the mind with 3 main parts. Preconscious - keeps unconscious thoughts from entering the conscious. Emphasizes conflict between the pleasure principle and the reality principle.
