Ch 1: what is sociology, study of human social life, groups, and societies, scope of sociology is wide, considering that we are social beings, what does it teach c. i. c. ii. New jersey has toughest, after rutgers freshman jumped off bridge due to bullying: sociology helps us to scientifically analyze and understand social phenomenons like bullying and suicide e. i. C wright mills (1959) said we can now translate private troubles into public issues. This means that seemingly personal issues can be public issues, or consequences of social structure. Regarding suicides, a sociologist would say how common is it and which groups are most vulnerable.
