Multiple explanations may exist & may need to be combined. Aristotle used logic & common sense to say that an object of greater mass will fall faster than a light object. Galileo observed two objects of different mass released from the tower of pisa at them same time. Description: how people behave, think, & feel. Explanation: understand why people act as they do. Prediction: expecting which behaviour will occur in the future (hypotheses) Control: designing research to test proposed explanations. Application: apply knowledge in ways that enhance human welfare. Relate better to others (in a way, we are all already amateur psychologists )
