-power and status- ability of an individual to exert influence over others
•referent- extent to which a person is liked by others
•expert- extent to which a person is perceived as possessing extensive knowledge
or expertise in a subject/activity
•legitimate- influence that stems from a code or standard of conduct
•coercive- extent to which a person is capable of punishing or withholding benefits
from others
•reward- extent to which a person is capable of awarding benefits to others
-attraction- general feeling or desire that impacts our willingness to initiate and
maintain a relationship with others in organization
•task- carry out workplace responsibilities
•proximity- closer physical distance
•social- degree to which an individual is liked and valued by others for their social
skills
•supporting/mentoring- perceptions of willingness to support others and aid in career
development
-involvement- amount of interaction that takes place between the relational parties
-dimensions of relationships are not static
-relationships based on exchange—> maximize rewards and minimize costs
