Socialization - process through which we learn basic attitudes, values, and behaviors. Personality - individual characteristics, attitudes, needs, and behaviors that set one person apart from another. Culture - the totality of learned, socially transmitted customs, knowledge, material objects, and behavior. Society - a large number of ppl who live in the same territory, and are relatively independent of people outside of it, and participate in a common culture. Culture industry - standardizes the goods and services demanded by consumers. Cultural universals - each society creates them, often as adaptations to meet essential human needs. They can also change in a society over time. Ethnocentrism - the tendency to assume that one"s own culture and way of life represent the norm or are superior to all others. Ethnocentric values serve to devalue groups and to deny equal opportunities. Cultural relativism - the evaluation of a ppl"s behavior from the perspective of their own culture.
