PSYCH 202 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: Temporal Lobe, Parallel Computing, Explicit Memory
Document Summary
The nervous system"s capacity to acquire and retain skills and knowledges. Information is acquired and processed into neural code. A process by which immediate memories becoming lasting memories. Neural processes involved when memories are recalled and then stored again for later retrieval. Processing multiple types of information at the same time. It is hard to do multiple things at the same time and get both of them well. Attention: ability to focus on certain stimuli. Adaptive in that facilitates functioning by enabling us to block out irrelevant information. Memory storage system that briefly holds a limited amount of information in awareness. Active processing system that keeps different types of information available for current use. Organizing information into meaningful units to makes it easier to remember. The ability to recall items from a list depends on order of presentation with items presented early or late in the list remembered better than those in the middles.
