Brown versus board of education had major implications for children with disabilities. Equal educational opportunity for children with disabilities was aided by civil rights movement of the 60s. Individuals with disabilities education act: 1975-97, bill of rights for children with exceptionalities and their families, signed into law by president ford, free appropriate public education. Best if children with disabilities are in a general education classroom: an individual education program. Education plan is tailored to each individual child with a disability: procedural due process. They have rights according to the law: nondiscriminatory assessment, parental participation. Many state departments of education are moving toward performance-based standards. Educational standards are important: intended to create equity across all schools and classrooms. Common core state standards: outlines grade-level expectations that describes what students should know in math and english in order to succeed in college and careers.
