Negroes from deep south started coming up. Foreign people started to assimilate into white society, blacks didn"t. Physical area did not increase but population size did. People move outward, leaving poor in middle. Foreign born settle in colonies but eventually more out as they become more acclimated. Negroes follow this trend but they never acclimate. Negroes move to cities after wwi, years after a pattern and societal rules have been in place. The problem if the color line web du bois. Postbellum de jure (by law) segregation in the south. De facto segregation: ghetto inequality, race riots in north. The founding ideals of us are democracy and equality, but we don"t practice these ideas.
