A part of leader"s job is to channel followers" motivation toward the accomplishment of the organization"s visions and goals. Creates desire to fulfill needs (money, friendship, recognition, achievement) Reward informs person whether behavior was appropriate and should be used again. People have basic needs such as friendships, recognition, or monetary gain, which translate into an internal tension that motivates specific behaviors with which to fulfill the need. When a behavior is successful the person is rewarded when the need is satisfied. Reward is used to inform people that the behavior is appropriate and can be used again in the future. Importance of motivation can lead to behaviors that reflect high performance within organization. Studies have found that high employee motivation and high organizational performance and profits go hand and hand.
