A. Home range
- Primates usually move within a circumscribed area
- Varies in size depending on the group and ecological factors
- Like food availability
- Ranges often change seasonably
- Number of miles traveled daily varies by group
- Core areas- use more often
- Typically contain water food resting places and sleeping trees
- Ranges of different groups may overlap
- Bonobos where 65% of one community may overlap with another
- Chimps are almost singly occupied and will defend from intrusion.
B. Gorillas do not defend their home range
- Against own kind
- But will defend group if threatened
