Leadership is the influence that particular individuals exert on the goal achievement of others in an organisational context. A group is two or more people acting interdependently to achieve a common objective. Traits are individual characteristics such as physical attributes, intellectual ability and personality. Teamwork s advantages: more productive, enhanced quality of working life, enhanced problem solving capabilities, more natural form of organisation. Traits associated with leadership effectiveness are intelligence, energy, self-confidence, dominance, motivation, emotional stability, integrity and honesty. Team structure: diversity, size, roles - are they ambiguous, behavioral norms. Effective teams require 1) maintenance where the team focuses its efforts on the common purpose and establishing cohesiveness and 2) task where the team focuses its efforts on getting the job done. A feeling of invulnerability creates excessive optimism and encourages risk. Discounts warnings that might challenge assumptions. the team is on the right track, causing members to ignore the consequences of their actions.
